Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Thanks to all.

MartL - I appreciate the detailed explanation and am confident in hopefully getting it sorted, or at least that ruled out as the cause. Thanks.

PaulT and sjw - thank you for your replies. If it is possible, I'm sure we'll find a way. I'd love to come to a meeting at some point, but ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Hi again everyone!

Looking at this thread it must have been nearly 4 years now of having my Elise! I'd say the best purchase of my life! I would definitely have joined this group properly but find it tricky to get to The Buckles Inn/Bridge Hotel at the right time. Is there a way to join remotely ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Short answer is probably no, it doesn't mention S1 or 5 spoke AWI wheels
I bought it anyway (part no A132G0174F), as I really couldn't find anything which looked a better match. It does fit, but annoyingly has grey plastic around the badge rather than the black of the other three. Not sure whether ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Thanks Moggy - brake lights working perfectly again. There was definitely some guess work in positioning, but it lined up correctly on the third attempt.

Hadn't considered the fuel cap seal :)

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Yes the next meeting will be 24.01.2017
I'll try hard to make it this time :D it'll be the last one before the MOT is due :)

I wouldn't have imagined the hard top making it more difficult to get in - I'm always baffled why some people don't see the fun side in the awkward access!

The two issues ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Hi again!

Everything seems to be going fairly well. The car now lives in a garage, so the rain/bird mess issues are largely in the past. Stuck with the soft top in the end :)

It kept being impractical to get to your meetings at the Buckles Inn to join properly (Tuesdays aren't great for me). About ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

The tension the roof with the Allen keys (keep your eye on the the moving bits under the tabs to make sure it doesn't mark the paint.
Yes, this is the part which hadn't been done (pins were in their holes, but not tightened). The allen key seems to be missing. Now it's done properly, I think it'll ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Give us some details of your purchase including photos (paste img links from photo bucket)

Also post your questions on n here until you join up fully :bravo
I'll look at taking pictures sometime. Up until now, it is becoming clear how frequently the black paint will need cleaning.

In terms of ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Having now transitioned from 'planning to buy' to 'bought', the number of questions is rising rapidly. Largely along the lines of, 'Is it normal for x to be happening/not happening?'

I'll look forward to popping along to the Buckles Inn, either June or July, and meeting those of you there!

Take ...

Re: Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Great choice, better looking than those new fangled S2 or heaven forbid S3 Elises ;)

Yes :)

Thanks to all three for your considered replies. You're clearly a welcoming bunch! It has been quite reassuring as well with the responses. I'll take a look into the shower caps - that's something I hadn ...

Hi all - planning to buy my first Lotus

Hello to you all!

I'm thinking about buying an Elise (S1), and had a couple of questions which I thought people on here might be well placed to answer.

The one I'm looking at (black) has a soft top. Realistically, I'd be expecting some degree of leaking when it rains, and aim to buy a hard top at ...
