k series or toyota?

Wonder if anybody can give me some advice please? Am wanting to purchase an elise some time after xmas (hopefully before summer!) and am thinking of getting the 111r, 04 plate-ish. Thought this model may be the best one to go for from a power output point of view. Is this the only toyota engined elise, and should i be discounting the k series? I work within the motor trade (although i'm not a mechanical expert) and every time we have dealings with k series engined cars (freelander etc) we seem to have issues with them, especially the dreaded head gasket. Any advice appreciated.

Two ways to look at it,with k engine will be older model so price will reflect

Toyota engine started to be fitted 54 onwards. so it will be a higher price.

Most members say 75k new hg.

Imo Toyta engine has no weak points as far as I know.

Dont get me wrong when working the k series is good, but for for me my Toyta engine is

Its all a matter of opinion at the end of the day and price.

there is a fair bit of differance to how both cars drive/handle as well so try both before you decide

Firstly, welcome to Nyloc, Edd.

5 years ago, for me, there was no choice, it was K-Series only (the Toyota was about to become reality) and I don't regret it one bit, nor do I hanker after a Toyota-engined car, but if I was in your shoes about to step into Lotus-land then I'd go Toyota. That's not a personal preference, it's just a more modern engine with more bhp and a nicer gearbox (but not that much quicker due to weight). Plus the cars are screwed together a bit better.

Great engine and like Moggy says you need to try both.

had both........Toyota, 6 speed, magic (k gear linkage rubbish) breaking, spot on (spent £500 on k breaks, still rubbish) and over 6.3k revs in Toyota, great. IMO
