Hi does anyone know of a good VAG (VW Audi) engine builder/tuner up north? as I'm having trouble finding one to build me a 1.8 20v turbo engine for my motorsport elise project.
I've tried Volks world in Fylde, but they don't return my (many) calls, so assume not interested.
thanks
Dave

Try John Shorrocks.
He built that 600hp Orange S1 Exige
Ring me if you want his number.
Its not just building the engine, its more knowing which parts to use
like Crank, block, head casting , manifolds, turbo etc etc

So that's why we won't see the Elan at a Nyloc meet then, bah.

Old Lotus don't die they get fixed and if it cannot be fixed with a BIG hammer then you have an electrical problem.

yeah probably right Doug, I've still got it, but still not finished it and can't really do any more myself. It needs fuel injection plumbing in, and cooling system sorting out, windscreen fitting and it'll be complete. So I'm a bit stuck about it really. I've just put it up for sale on Lotus elan.net - so if you know anyone who might be interested - please let them/me know.
Starting on with this new project is also a factor. Never start a new one before you've finished the first one....they said!
best wishes

Cheers Dave, I'll call you tomorrow for John's number.
I'm reasonably clear about some of this and am being advised by someone down sarf, who has built several of these.
I have a donor VW GTI 1.8t 20v engine with AGU (large port head), Seat Leon ERR 6 speed box, the stock crank is forged and considered to be strong enough for what I want - 350 - 400bhp, as are the stock cams. I know I'll need forged con rods and pistons, and uprated valves, guides and springs. I have a good strong Sachs clutch from Darkside Developments.
I will be fitting a larger Garrett turbo on a bespoke stainless manifold and a charge cooling system from Pro Alloy.
I just want to get it built be a good reliable builder who knows these engines.

Yeah saw your ad on elan.net and I thought oh oh that's another one I probably won't see.

It looked like you were doing a very nice job as well Dave, got tooooooo many cars of my own otherwise I would have liked that. ;)

Anyway good luck with your next project, can't have enough projects to do really :roll :up

What are you planning on doing with the Elise then ? Circuit racing, hillclimbing, sprints ?

Thanks Doug, it really is a lovely thing, shame I can't keep it, I need the space and the cash.
I've just retired from the NHS after completing 35 years continuous service - Psychotherapist so need a new project for my spare time.
Yes I really fancy doing some hillclimbs and sprints with it.....if I finish it!!
I have wide arch S1 Exige clams and just agreed to buy an old S1 elise, so will be stripping it out, putting a roll cage in, S2 hubs and uprights, bigger brakes and Nitrons.
I'm looking forward to getting started with it.
I'll post a build thread when I get round to it.
