:lol

What is this unreliability that is mentioned, aside from HGF the Rover unit is very reliable. HGF is no big deal, usually straight forward tom fix or you can just put another engine in.

Our kid's 111R engine just gone pop in a big, big way :down - new engine fitted as only one piston left in the old one :shock

You pays your money ;) :D

I would recommend a well cared for 111s of either ilk :up

Evening.
Totally echo the above comments, All bar that the yoya lump is better than the K series.. :shock :shock They are both cracking engines!!.
Get yourself over to nyloc or pop down to Jct to see Andy, Tim or myself, so you can see, hear, feel all the different models.
As what is good for one is not good for some one else :judge .
As mentioned all of the models have inherent issues/design faults/flaws. :wink

I personally have a major soft spot for the mk1 sport 160. :D

There is a lotus varient for each and every customer in the variety's that they have produced over the years, Bit like a box of Quality street. :lol .

Best advise is decide on your budget :judge, then drive each and every variation possible,

But no matter which model you end up with you will have a huge clown inducing smile each and every time you drive it. :woo :woo .

I've had my S1 Elise just over three years now, bought between christmas and new year, what a crimbo pressie that was!!! :D
I searched about a bit and looked at quite a few S1's, most had more wear and tear on them than i was prepared to put up with, i spent a little more than i wanted to initially but found a one owner from new, ten year old car with 30,000 on the clock, full Lotus service history and almost standard apart from a removeable steering wheel, aftermarket performance air filter and some nice alloy window winder handles and door trim fasteners.
I do use it everyday for work, even through the winter, me and the wife both need a car so one of us has to drive it... it may as well be me as i'd rather drive it than the Audi anyway, forget it in the snow, unless it's downhill, or the snow is VERY thin on the ground.
Buy the best you can afford and enjoy! :D

good luck with selling your 111r and geting your Exige .
as a time served mechanic im surprised you could not keep your Rover engine relaible.
as for your knowledge about them only you know that one, but you should not underestimate
the knowledge of most on NYLOC you may be surprised.
Like most things you get good and bad whether its a Toyota or Rover and from what i have seen
and heard over the past 10+ years the Toyota has been no better or worse than the Rover.
As i have a Honda in mine its not a problem for me, but then again even they go Bang ;)

I known loads of Toyota lumps go bang, some on here have had more than one go bang! For the most part though I guess they're reliable.

The K series is still a fantastic engine though, especially given it weight. HGF is the only real issue and it's not difficult to cure. I still think the power delivery of the VVC is second to none.
