Afternoon!

Second newbie question about the Exige.

Had a test drive in an Exige S with Perf, Sport and tourning packs on, clearly a great car, handles well, great brakes and pretty user friendly to drive.

Only thing is, well two to be fair, it didn't seem overly quick and the engine noise was, well a bit anaemic.

That last statement is probably going to get me a slating but I wasn't blown away by it as I'd expected to be.

Admittedly the test drive was only 25 mins and it wasn't over a load of twisty B roads, and it was my first drive in one.

Has anyone else had this or have I gone stark raving mad?

Any thoughts very welcome

You are not only mad but certifiable!!

I assume you were driving with the dealer or owner - if so you'd hardly let it stretch its legs. One of the guys on here would be happy to take you out in theres - you may need spare under garments though.

Noise may not be impressive with standard exhaust - but that is easily fixed.

Yes I'm thinking that might be the case!

The dealer was in the car although I gave the full beans through the gears - definately quick, but the more I think about it, the more I need a longer drive on some twisty roads.

I'm meeting up with a mate over the weekend who's got a standard Exige S2 - quite looking forward to seeing what it can do.

It depends what you've driven before I guess. When I drove the Elise for the first time I expected a stab in the back on acceleration and it didn't happen - I was a teeny weeny bit disappointed. I'd driven a friend's Skyline with 450bhp for a while and was (stupidly) expecting a similar kick. However... get on track against something like that and the straight line speed gives way to the braking and cornering of the Elise / Exige so much that you end up quicker overall - as long as it's not a high speed track like Silverstone.

Dont mind taking you for a run in the wife's Exige S,
I seem to have had most things at some time or other & her car is not slow !

But on the up side, had it for a year now,
Enjoyed the 26k miles I have done in it,
Only cost me service/rubber & got a good price for it
So all in all a not a bad result

Someone's got a mint Monaro there, with good history.

Yes it's been a goodun,
Going to be a bit of a change using the Elise as a daily driver,
Really looking forward to it though,
May be able to justify putting new exhaust & supercharger through the books then !

The more I thnk about it, and had some 'reasoned conversation' in the pub last night, the more I think my frame of reference is a bit out. I've owned a TVR Tuscan Red Rose for the last four years, which has been tuned, and has approx 410bhp.

I think I'm used to the huge power and quite peaky delivery which is totally different to the Exige.

The Exige is a quick car, just different to the Tuscan - I'm going for a test drive round a load of B-Roads tomorrrow with a mate who's got a standard Exige. It should sort out the misconception!

Nothing too exciting nice though (cooper s) & the Mrs has already claimed it,
The idea was going to be free up some space but just can't seem to do that.
Something else may have to go !

I had a really good drive in a pals Exige today, really good fun and I think I liked the sounds more than the supercharger one actually.

Biggest difference was the handling - the one today had been properly set up and felt great to drive.

Going to try another S I think.
