Hi,
I am looking at buying a lotus elise and I have found one that I am interested in.
However the seller says that he is selling it on behalf of his father....so the car will be viewed at an address that is not the address of the owner or the address on the paper work.
He says that he has a letter of authorisation to sell the car and that I can contact his father if required.
What checks do I need to do to make sure this is legit?
So far all I have found is that I should make the bankers draft payable to the person on the paper work.
Any other advice or tips?
Its a fair drive to go and see this car so I don't want to waste my time if its going to be dodgy or a hassle.
Cheers,
Chris.
Selling on Behalf of? Advice please!
Have you run an HPI check on the number plate?
Personally if there were any doubts in my mind I'd look elsewhere - there's plenty of Elises on the market - certainly wouldn't be handing over a bankers draft there and then - if you take the draft you will put undue pressure on yourself to buy
- not until everything checks out
Where is the car? - there are loads of Lotus Forums dotted around the UK ( eg SELOC, MLOC, NORLOG, SCOTTISH ELISES)- you could join up and ask if anyone knows the car or could pop around to view it

^^^^ what Simon says, any doubts walk away.
Ask why you can't meet the father etc. Could be legit but like Simon says there are plenty of Elises out there. Why a bankers draft etc etc
If it doesn't feel right don't do it

Hi,
Thanks for the tips guys.
I woudldn't take the bankers draft with me!
The idea of making the bankers draft out to person on the paper work is so that only they can cash it, eg the third party doing the selling is unable to cash it without the actual owner being involved.
Apparently the owner used to be a member of Nyloc.
Older gentleman based in Scunthorpe. Yellow S2 elise with a private plate R77. Not sure if that rings any bells for anyone?
Cheers,
Chris.

Owner is not called Russ is he?
Sounds like Russ's car, first S2 Elise in the club and an import if I recall correctly.
Nice genuine guy, used to look after his car well. Hope he's ok.
Can't see why there should be a problem but as always check everything out fully.
