NYLOC Forum

Hello everyone
I'm about to take delivery of my first elise (weds) and can't wait. I would like to join NYLOC but can't get along to the Buckles for a couple of months. My prospective insurer is asking for proof of club membership, so is there any other way to join other than take the Buckles route? Looking forward to meeting you all sometime in the future.

Firstly: welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy the car, what a feeling - you'll love it!

I really keep meaning to get round to writing a 'this is why we do it this way' document but I'd rather reply in person. It's because we are a social club with our roots as such far more than as an Internet community, of which there are plenty. The club was started as a group of friends with a common interest, but when the forum came along we soon found some people were joining the club just to get the discounts and we'd never get to meet them. This wasn't in the spirit of the membership and so the club decided to make it a requirement to visit the Buckles to join.

I've (happily, I might add) answered this question many times - you're not the first and you certainly won't be the last. We would genuinely love for you to pop along to the Buckles to see what we're about - much more than tyre kicking I might add, and you'd be made welcome. We have lots of people who can't make the meetings due to other commitments but all it takes is to turn up once and you can renew each year from afar.

Thanks for the replies folks. we're looking forward to getting along to the Buckles at the first opportunity to meet you all. It was only when the insurance cover note came through that I noticed they wanted proof of club membership. It had been my intention to join nyloc irrespective of any discounts as I've been gleaning information through the forum before taking the plunge into the world of Lotus ownership. Anyway the day is getting closer and I'm starting to wonder if it's normal for a fifty nine year old to feel like a ten year old again!

Welcome to Nyloc and Lotus ownership. The age thing, in a couple of years you'll be able to turn the digits round like I do, I think I'm 26 at the moment

Welcome to Nyloc, by the way there are NO normal 59 year olds here in Nyloc, WE are all 10 year olds. So your not the odd one out. Ask Simon E

Picked the car up as planned (in Newcastle) and took the scenic route home (Huddersfield) via Whitby and the North Yorks Moors. Woke up this morning, looked in the mirror, and the smiles still there! Only one thing I didn't care for and that's the gear change (2005 111S) I've also got a 1963 Triumph TR4 and the gearchange is far superior! Anyone out there fitted the Elise shop gear box linkage and quick shift kit? If so is it a decent improvement.

Many people swear by the gear linkage upgrades etc.

I've found making sure the cables and linkages are lubricated is all that is needed. Changing the gearbox oil also transformed mine and became something I do regualry.

Re the wobbly gear stick, the short shifts are also very good for making the gear stick feel tighter, go for both if you can but if not go for the short shift

Big thumbs up here for the linkage kit

This is another of my winter projects - barely self-centres in the gate and 5th is obstructive. Reverse is only available under a full moon...

It doesn't take long to get a list together for improvements ! Winter projects (when not working on the TR4) are going to be linkage and short shift kit, followed rapidly by some decent lights to replace the candles that Lotus have kindly fitted. Thought my eye sight had failed last night! Anyone any views on the lighting front?

I fitted new units and updated bulbs. Many go for HIDS, heard rumours of some failing MOT with them but not sure how true.
