Hi Guys,

Relatively new '06 Exige S2 owner here - not had chance to make it to any of the meets yet but hopefully will do soon!

I've got an issue with my speedo/ABS (basically neither work) and I've had a garage look at it but despite their best efforts they don't seem to be able to track the issue down. I've had a similar problem before and had both rear wheel bearings replaced which solved it but somehow it's come back. n/s/r bearing has been replaced again to no avail.

Their suggestion is to get it to a Lotus specialist who can plug in to the ABS controller which should give some more clues than a standard OBD reader does on the ECU - so does anyone know of anywhere around Harrogate who can do this? Foulds seem to get good reviews but they're a bit of a trek, likewise Phoenix Motorsports. Pure Lotus are the obvious local candidates but I've had a few fairly unimpressive encounters with them so not particularly inclined to go back there if I can avoid it...

JCT would be the only people local with real Lotus diagnostics for the ABS, NYLOC members get a discount.

What you could do though is clean up the toothed ABS rings on the hubs/driveshafts with a screw driver (I had an issue with some minor corrosion that 'narrowed' the gaps on a car, main dealer could not diagnose the issue but wanted to replace sensors, I sorted by doing this).

Also clean up the sensors while you are at it (being magnetic they can pick up debris that can confuse things).

The ABS rings sometimes corrode and the pressure underneath them can make them crack. I'd be surprised if this happened on a car at 7 years though.

A decent garage should have checked and cleaned the rings first though.

I did once have a car in which the ABS sensors were so sensitive that fitting a different make of tyres front - rear threw the ABS out. I was doing 45K a year in it so changed tyres regularly and twice when the company fitted a different pair the ABS played up.

Have you spoken to Chris Foulds about Italy. He's quite happy to give advise over the phone as are most of the other specialists.

Martin and Dennis the op has an S2 and the speed/ABS ring
is part of the wheelbearing and you can't get to it to clean it.
You can put a meter on them to check to see if there ok

Well that is a stupid idea fancy hiding them away so you can't fix it yourself
