So lots of opinions on ECU reflash with 111R Toyota engine, People who do trackdays prefer to have the cam point lowered to help with coming off corners?

And other who like the 'kick feel' you get from the R version when you hit 6200rpm just want to keep that and therefore do not reflash their ECU.

I spoke to A1 remapping in Hull to ask if they did the hanger111 cam change reflash and they did not seem to know without consulting first.

The email below is what i received when asking about ECU reflash.

Hello Mike ,
Yes, we can remap that model .
Gains are around 7% which isn't massive but you will notice it on a car like yours .
Price is £200 for a Quantum Tuning remap.
Not sure what you mean regarding the cam. Are you changing the cam ?

So looking at the graphs on their website and the torque at 7% and HP at 7% increase, showing a much smoother line of power all the way through. Would this be worth considering?

I prefer the idea of actually visiting a company and having them reflash the car whilst there, rather then posting off the ECU for example.

One last question, does an ECU reflash make the car harder to sell in the future, or would that be a bonus to most to have a much more programmed car to suit the stage 2 exchaust/induction setup.

Regards
Mike

Are they known in tuning circles? Id be a bit wary of having my car messed with by them if they dont know such a common 111R mod.

Apparently the best in the local area. That's what surprised me. I mean to be honest the reflash as they do would probably still be very nice. But by having this done would the cam change automatically or does it have to be set specifically on the reflash. That's the question.

Ah you're in York. My Fiancee spent most of her life growing up there. Not too far from here then, 25 minute drive perhaps.

I imagine the cam change is a specific thing. I would have thought if they know this engine they would know how to do it.
Sounds like what you have been offered is just a general remap that would be applicable to any car. Maybe worth checking if they can create something bespoke or are they just offering a templated map. Any previous customers with this engine you can talk to?

If it were mine it would without doubt get the official Lotus re-map & no other...... :bravo

Agree with the debate about the kick & can see both sides, though even for enthusiastic road use it's got to be safer after the re-map.. If I'm honest though it was that kick that sold the car to me in the first place.

Your local so JCT in Leeds could get it done for you (not sure if they could do it while you wait?)
Sure Byron will confirm either way when/assuming he gets back from his stag night :lol

With regards to resale cars with the Lotus map do carry a slight premium any other & I'd personally stay well away.

On track it's deffinately faster after the re-flash though it doesn't feel it..
Not 100% sure but the Hangar 111 re-flash may be the official Lotus one also?

Re-flash = Lotus speak for Re-map :lol :lol hope that helps.. All just my opinion of course!

I heard that most of these places just send a bloke that actually does the remaps details of your car and get the appropriate map emailed across to them. Sounds like at best they'd pay Hanger111 for the map you want and charge you labour on top.

I spoke to a bloke in Scunthorpe (about the family car) who actually does his own re-maps so can tweak it to whatever you need, never went through with it though as I can't get my head round the more power = more MPG theory.

Witchcraft ;)

Have had to 'mapped' cars. Previously a vRS diesel reflashed and currently a GTD with DTUK box. Neither has improved MPG but they have been absolutely worth the cost. Transforms it.

Our lasses ST has been mapped, I spent a lot of time choosing which on to go for (as there were a few) I went with Code Red, it was/is a German brand and so had to be TUV approved, some ford dealers were also selling them AC the unofficial ford map (this is before mountune)

It came with a box I can plug in to return to stock.

It made a big difference to power (from 225 to 285 bhp and plenty more torque, it now torque steers so I have to drive it not just plant my foot and go :bravo ) mpg did increase by about 12% from 16 mpg to 18 mpg :lol

I would only let a known company perform 'brain surgery' on my car
Cheers

evening mike. :wavey

i have a lotus motorsport ecu if you fancy.??.. Providing you have a 06 onwards car(. i,e elctronic throttle, probax seats ,led rear lights ect).

essentially the point in which the cam change happens changes from 6,250rpm on a standard car to 5,750rpm on the lotus motorsport map.

Give me a buzz if you fancy a chat.

Byron.

Ah that's very thoughtful Byron. And certainly would have been interested. However my 111R is 05 reg so it wouldn't work. Really appreciate you trying to help out though :)

Going on the same route. Previous owner was looking at the option of a hanger111 upgrade. I believe it was the 5700GT one specifically designed for cars with induction kits and non oem exhausts. He didn't go for it in the end because it was a commute car for him and fuel was a concern.

What are your thoughts? rumor has it you get the lower cam but also a +10bhp increase.

Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers Byron. I think the gt reflash is more useful if you have very good exhaust system etc. I'm guessing the standard cam change reflash will still give a better powerband range over standard.

For £160 that's not half bad.

Never heard of this reflash before, however will hopefully get chance to have a drive in a car which has the ECU reflashed to it.

It's call the BOE Torque200 reflash.

Lot's of positive feedback on other lotus forums. Has anyone really heard much themselves about this option?
