Just about to take my S1 Elise for first foreign trip with drive through France next month. Anyone got any tips for light adjustment or another legal changes I need to make.
No real need to do anything to the candles on the S1
More useful info is in the abbeville thread (there are loads of use going over at the end of next month

Sorry just noticed your other a member so can't see that thread, to be a little more helpful...
Don't take any speed camera device (even in your sat nav)
Hi vis vests for both occupants (they have to be in the cabin)
A spare set of bulbs
Gb sticker or euro plates
Breatherliser x 2
You can put some tape on your lamps if you are really worried but I have never bothered
A credit card with available credit for if you get fought speeding

I'd tape the lamps up - you need to either buy the correct kit (Halfords etc) or just look carefully at some instructions on the packet and the size of the tape and make your own version. This is pure politeness to other drivers as well as compliance.
Latest TomToms for a few years have swapped over to 'danger zone' rather than pinpointing speed cameras. From their own site:
Drive at the legal limit on the motorways and the big roads. Have fun on the myriad of wonderful country lanes - get the sat nav to avoid the big roads, give yourself plenty of time and just enjoy the countryside, villages and weather.
Breathalysers - here's the thing; there's a law, it's not enforceable. Should you not have 2 of them, there's nothing they can do. I've got 2 in the car and they're out of date - I bet there's a law that can get me on that, I will bin them and not replace them.
Dennis has the other bits - you also need a warning triangle and you can get some that pack quite small and are legal. The AA and RAC sites have plenty of info. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/to ... monaco.pdf <- for instance.
By far the best advice I can give you is to remember to drive on the right. Jayzuz it's easy to forget when you first jump in the car and you're perhaps in the countryside and there's no other cars around! As one of our members used to say "put your arse in the gutter". Or was it butter?
Tunnel or boat? If tunnel, book over the phone and ask to go into the high vehicles carriage. This is normal to them, because if they run out of space on the bottom deck, you'll be directed to the top deck. The ramp is a bit steep, you'll likely scrape and the good people at Eurotunnel often know this. I've had to miss a train in the past because of this so I just ask to go in with the commercial vehicles. On the way in you just follow the signs as if you were a high vehicle.
Bon voyage.

Remember, this is only for the danger zone stuff built into TomTom. If you decide to install a database of homegrown camera locations (via POIs) then you'll likely end up in bother if the gendarmes catch you. It's not pretty - they tell you to put your device underneath the wheel of your vehicle and drive over it.TomTom’s service in France is certified to be 100% legal. Instead of warning for exact locations of cameras, TomTom warns for Danger Zones around any potential danger, including cameras.

Thanks for replies VERY useful. Gave car first run out yesterday after 5 months in garage and little mileage last couple of years. Soon settled in...think long drive will do it good and have more time to use it this year. Thanks for your help...hope you all have fun this year.

Last I understood was that they reintroduced the requirement for these. If you don't have them you can be fined. The fine is set at £0 per offence

Correct it's a zero fine, I believe this how the French handle all out of date laws and stuff. Wasn't there a scandal that it turned out the presidents mate owned a company making the disposable breathalysers...Rick101 wrote: Last I understood was that they reintroduced the requirement for these. I didn't bother buying them for recent trip
