Track day noise regulation help please!

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of taking my Exige S 220 on track with Lotus on track at Hethel, however I have a 2bular full exhaust system fitted so I don't know if I will pass the noise regulations. I remember Jim at 2bular comparing it to the factory stage 2 exhaust. (At the time I had it fitted about 7 years ago, it replaced a very loud Larini and I had no plans to try a track day!)

Does anyone have any experience of taking a similar car on track and can anyone please advise on where I might get the car tested locally in Yorkshire before booking?

Thanks in advance,

Neel

It's always a gamble, particularly with 2bular... though he does boxes ranging from 6 to 8", so it will depend. Do you have a photo of your backbox? If it's on the larger side, you'll probably be fine but the smaller ones can be dicey.

Only way you'll get a reading anywhere close is get yourself over to Cadwell on the day of a trackday and they'll happily noise test you if you ask nicely. That handles the static, but driveby is more difficult... but generally you can 'drive around' that by short shifting a bit*

Thank you for your advice! I'm pretty sure it's the 7 inch exhaust, not the quieter 8 inch. I switched from the previous owner's Larini that sounded great but was seriously loud and making my ears ring on the motorway. As I liked the sound, I didn't want the quiet option at the time, especially with no plans to take my pride and joy on track!

I'll try to get over to Croft or Cadwell and see if they'll do a static test.

I'm debating whether to go for the quieter back box but I know I'll miss the sound!

Thanks again!

I have the 2bular back box on my Elise S (220) with the Helmholtz resonance chamber and the sound from the exhaust is fine.

My engine is the 2ZR-FE not the 2ZZ but I've never had any noise issues on track days. People watching tell me the exhaust sounds good when I'm on track.
