Sold: Europa. Wanted: Focus ST

Just an update on my Europa, it is now sold and on its way to Australia. Thanks to Jay at Pure Lotus for sorting

My son-in-law is looking for a Focus ST up to £10K. Must be from a Ford Dealer, 5 door, black, blue or red, max mileage 35k, full leather, FSH.
We've found a couple over in Winsford to have a look at, if anyone knows of any others within 150 miles of York please post up here.

I have just been on the Trader....there are over 10 from Ford Dealers within 50 miles of me......also one in Tadcaster

Thanks Danny, will have a look. Must be exact spec though, I wanted him to have the one at Lawtons (Tadcaster) cos its a tidy car but mileage too high for him :

Why from a ford dealer, thye have never touched ours other than warrenty work?

If it has to have leather (which I agree it must) it will be an ST3.

They are known as prefacelift (08 and before) and facelift (08 on) I prefer the prefacelift as the facelift is not that distinguishable from the zetec etc. (nb the black headlights and pm3 playing 6 disc Sony in dash changer came in mid 2007).

Blue is ok but not a fan of the black or red (do not go for a ST500 it has red leather and they are all badged 1 of 500)

Main thing to look out for other than the usual is clutch slip, to test for this get on the motorway in 6th, get it to about 3,000 revs and floor it if the revs go up to about 3500 then hesitate it needs a new clutch, our lasses is due and it has only done 19,000, this is due to her remap. The RS clutch is going in as stronger and will last with the extra horses.

NB we only get about 18 mpg around town driving, some get more but not if you are going to enjoy the car.

Oh and option to pick on the ST is the DEACT (digital air con, it is a must in such a spec car) oh and check for a spare, they were a no cost option but very few took it.

If you are thinking child seats, despite what the dealer etc may say, isofix can be retrofitted in about 10 mintues a side

If the above has not put you off they are a great car hence why we are holding on to ours as there is nothing out there that has the room, umph and is as much fun out there today in stnadard form and with a remap way-hay .

Fuel consumption isnt really an issue as he won't be doing too many miles, he knows what to expect.
He wants a five door cos he's found the 3 door Golf too restricting for carrying bulky stuff.

I've had two of these and first of all they use petrol! It's a great car, very smooth and comfortable but not as quick as you might imagine. I found them a bit heavy to drive and more of a tourer than a hot hatch. I never saw more than 20mpg which is terrible for a car that is supposed to have some performance. Things have definitely moved on technology wise since then.

Now driving a 1.6 ecoboost turbo focus. I would say it has the same performance as the ST 0-60 but returns about 45mpg. It's more fun to drive and less conspicuous than the ST. Downside is that it looks really boring.

But the new ecobust cars don't have the 5pot growl

The ST's and RS's are not the quickest 0-60 due to torque limiters installed for 1st & 2nd gear due only being 2wd,as I say stick a remap on and thye really do come fun and th emog increases a little

I did like the car and the electrics do improve handling a lot,although it takes some getting used to.

I am considering the RS version but can't decide if I like the UG colour and its brick on wheels look ( I don't want one in blue or white)

UG has grown on me a little but if I did get our lass one it woudl be blue or white in that order.

It would also have ot be Lux pack 1 spec, i.e. have DEACT, I can't be done with the manual dials on the base spec and hate the built in sat nav of Lux pack 2.

Also needs the mountune kit to give it the performance it diserves, a code red'd or DS'd ST is quicker to 60 supposidly
