Hi if the car has been laid up for a long time the rubber has become tired, it also sounds like the fans need checking out, all the same thing not been used for a long time.
If you look on Seloc wiki tec I think it is called you should be able to get the part number.
I am sure more advice will follow

Sorry to say but to get to the fan the front clam has to come off

Sounds like the fan came on as it should. What did they sound like? They can't get the temp down if there is no coolant to cool. They wouldn't normally come on while driving as the airflow will do the cooling.
It may be worth replacing the expansion tank cap. These often fail (but usually by leaking) but I guess the valve could seize causing high pressure. I've heard of that hose going before - I hope that's your only problem.
Please change the expansion tank too, or at least clean it - I hope that colour is from the previous HGF. No sign of Mayo I hope!
I'd give it a real good flush through after changing the hose, fill with water and see if all is OK at running temperature, If it is, drain again and fill with coolant then do the oil etc.

Mark aka hesslenaylor was a great help when we stripped my front clam off to fit a new rad so done that one already.
One good bit of advice is soak every nut/bolt/fixing in wd40 days before you go near it! Lotus used the cheapest nastiest bolts you ever saw and they were rusting before they were eve fitted to the car, you eve look at one wrong and it will shear itself and fall off lol.
All part of the fun though.
Btw are you going to the meet a week on Tuesday. Even if the car isn't running be good to come along and meet everyone and also sort your membership out lol.
